Entomological Resources
If you're interested in getting into entomology, either as a hobby or maybe even for research, you might benefit from some the sources below:
- USDA's Guide Book on "Collecting and Preseving Insects and Mites" [probably the most comprehensive guide out of all of these links]
- Pinning guide for hardbodied insects
- Bee catching and identification guide by the seemingly legendary Sam Droege
- Preseving Insects and their allies (helpful for knowing the safe ethanol %tage to use on certain samples)
- Invertebrate Collection Methods (includes materials list, methods, tips, and issues)
- Purdue's insect collection guide for kids (still helpful in general, not as indepth as the USDA's guide, but pretty good)
- NC State's Insect Collection Instructions (I think this is for a course, but has some videos that might be helpful)
- Preparation and Curation of Insects (kind of like the USDA's guide, but not as indepth on certain topics, still pretty good, mayeb a little more helpful for organizing and setting up a collection)
